At around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, officers from the Hagerstown Police Department were called to a building in the unit block of North Mulberry Street, where they found a 34-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.

She was rushed to Meritus Medical Center with what were described as "life-threatening injuries," though on Monday morning, police said that she is expected to survive.

According to police, the suspect, Hagerstown resident Brandon Lamont Howard left the apartment after the stabbing and began damaging a vehicle. When the owner of the vehicle confronted him, a second physical altercation ensued, during which Howard was reportedly injured and had to be taken to the hospital.

Howard knew the woman, officials say, but there is no clear connection to the owner of the vehicle he damaged.

After being treated, Howard was charged with:

  • Second-degree attempted murder.
  • First- and second-degree assault;
  • Reckless endangerment.

No information about his initial court appearance was released by the department.
